Here are some answers to our most frequently asked questions about ISO conformance.
Do I need to be ISO 9001 certified?
Not everyone is ready to be certified to ISO 900. ISO 9001 is a set of standards that are designed to help make any organization more efficient. Let Revitalize Solutions work with you to develop a management system based on the applicable ISO 9001 principles to improve the efficiencies of your Niagara company. If you decide to become ISO 9001 registered in the future, you will already have many necessary processes and procedures in place which will save you the costs of changing your system in order to meet the requirements of the standard.
How many employees do you need to be certified?
It depends, organizations of all sizes can conform to ISO 9001, and the processes that govern conformance can benefit companies who don't need ISO 9001.
What is the value in being ISO 9001 certified?
Many industries require that their suppliers be certified to one or more management standards. Registration to ISO 9001 can remove a barrier to entry for your organization to some of these markets by providing you with processes that will enable your organization to ensure consistency of products. Additionally, when properly applied, ISO 9001 can help your organization identify, implement plans for and verify effectiveness of improvements in your products or processes.
How much will implementation or transition services cost?
Costs will vary depending on the size of your organization, complexity of your products and processes, and the maturity of your current system. Implementing on ISO 9001 system should be a strategic decision made to improve organizational efficiencies. If you are currently losing money due to downtime, returned product or rework, the investment in an ISO 9001 system will pay for itself in a short period.
What is the process for implementation or transition?
The first step is to perform a gap analysis audit that compares your current state against the requirements of the standard. Once this audit is complete, a timeline is created for the project. Included in this timeline is a statement of responsibilities which will outline what services are required from Revitalize Solutions (training, documentation creation/revision, internal audits) and which tasks the organization will complete on its own.
Can a 3rd party auditor perform internal audits?
: Yes. Organizations that do not have the resources due to either low staff numbers, or lack of trained auditors, to complete internal audits have found value in bringing a trained 3rd party, independent auditor to complete some or all the internal audits for the organization.
What is the bare minimum to be ISO 9001 certified?
While there are minimum requirements for documentation and processes, an organization that is hoping to register to the ISO 9001 standard should not be looking for the bare minimums. This is a standard that drives improvement, which requires effort. If your organization is not committed to a consistent effort towards improvement, it may not be ideal for you to pursue registration to ISO 9001.
Can I copy someone else’s Quality Documentation?
Yes. But it may not bring you value. Since documents such as your Quality Policy must be relevant and appropriate to the Context of Your Organization, someone’s documentation will not necessarily work for you. Some pre-existing documents or templates may be used as guidelines. Be sure that you are not creating unnecessary work or documents for your organization simply because someone else has found it useful for their organization.
